Even though I see rats weekly, they used to always take me by surprise. I guess I've gotten used to them now, at least in the subway tracks, because I hardly flinch anymore. The other day I saw a tiny baby rat, complete with tiny baby rat tail, running around, and I actually thought it was kind of cute. What I saw earlier this evening, though, was less cute and more disgusting.
It must be mating season. Yep. Just what we need in this city: more rats. I saw two rats running in the tracks across the gap, and while it looked like they were just playing a fun game of chase, it quickly became evident that they were playing another kind of game. The game where a male rat chases and tries to mount a female rat. The female wasn't having it, though, and kept flinging the male rat off. He perused her out of my range of vision.
Ah, New York. In real life, it's just as romantic and glamorous as on Gossip Girl.
